The Chicken Farmers of Canada were recently recognized by the Canadian government for its on-farm food safety program.

The on-farm food safety program was recognized by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz with the first-ever letter of recognition issued under the On-Farm Food Safety Recognition Program. The program  is available to all on-farm production, and it encourages national industry associations to develop HACCP-based food safety systems as defined by the Codex Alimentarius.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency successfully performed a technical review of the on-farm food safety program before the letter of recognition was granted. Ongoing, third-party audits will be part of this food safety program going forward.
