Rosemond G. Dorleans, of Georgetown, Del. has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, according to the Sussex Countain

Dorleans received one of 15 scholarships given this year to children of Perdue employees and independent contract farm partners. During his tenure at Sussex Central High School, he completed a course load that included 10 advanced placement classes. He graduated with a weighted 105.87 grade point average on a scale of 100 and was ranked second in his class.

He served as president of both the National Honor Society and the Science Olympiad chapters at his school. Dorleans also earned an academic all-conference position as team captain of the varsity cross country team.

In addition to this scholarship, he has also been awarded the Horatio Alger National Scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association, and the Gates Millennium Scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dorleans will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., where he plans to pursue a degree in civil engineering.
