Iowa Turkey Federation Turkey Grill observes 30th year at fair

The Iowa Turkey Federation will feed Iowa State Fair attendees while educating them about the Iowa turkey industry and its economic impact. The Turkey Grill concession stand, staffed by Iowa Turkey Federation members, will return to the Iowa State Fair for the 30th consecutive year.

The Iowa Turkey Federation will feed Iowa State Fair attendees while educating them about the Iowa turkey industry and its economic impact. The Turkey Grill concession stand, staffed by Iowa Turkey Federation members, will return to the Iowa State Fair for the 30th consecutive year. The fair will be held Aug. 8-18.

During the Iowa State Fair, the Iowa Turkey Federation will serve griddle sticks, turkey tenderloins, pulled turkey sandwiches and turkey legs. An anticipated 15,150 pounds of turkey legs, 6,000 pounds of turkey tenderloins and 850 pounds of shredded turkey are expected to be sold at the Turkey Grill during the fair.

In addition to serving turkey products to fair visitors, members of the Iowa Turkey Federation will share information about the Iowa turkey industry. There are currently more than 130 turkey farms in Iowa that raise a total of 11 million turkeys a year. The Iowa turkey industry has a $1.5 billion economic impact, which includes 4,220 jobs and more than $158.7 million in salaries. Iowa turkey can be found at restaurants like Subway and Jimmy John's, as well as in Jimmy Dean turkey products.
