Commercial broiler hatcheries in the U.S. set 200 million broiler eggs in incubators during the week ending August 3. The number of broiler eggs set is up 3 percent from the corresponding week during 2012, but down about 1 million from the previous week.
The average hatchability of broiler eggs was at 84 percent for the second consecutive week, according to the USDA broiler hatchery report, released on August 7.
The report also showed that 167 million broiler chicks were placed during the week ending August 3, an equal number to the amount of broiler chicks placed during the previous week, and there was a two-percent increase in the number of chicks placed during the comparable week in 2012.
