Pacific Vet Group - USA Inc. is pleased to welcome Dr. Anita Menconi as a part-time field research supervisory intern.
Menconi is a native of Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, and received her veterinary degree from Centro Regional Universitario de Espirito Santo do Pinhal, São Paulo, Brazil, in 2005. She recently received her master's degree in poultry science and is currently working on her doctorate at the JKS Poultry Health Laboratory at the University of Arkansas under the direction of Dr. Billy Hargis. Her work with Pacific Vet Group will be in conjunction with a Curricular Practical Training (CPT) program with the university.
Menconi has been actively studying poultry intestinal health and is the author of several research articles, including: Identification and Characterization of Lactic Acid Bacteria in a Commercial Probiotic Culture, Physiological Properties and Salmonella Growth Inhibition of Probiotic Bacillus Strains Isolated from Environmental and Poultry Sources, and Evaluation of the Oral, or Subcutaneous, Administration of a Probiotic Based on Lactobacillus for the Reduction of Salmonella Enterica Serovar Heidelberg in Broilers.
At the International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta, Ga., in late January, Dr. Menconi was awarded two prestigious student awards: the Southern Conference on Avian Diseases best oral presentation and the Alltech Student Manuscript Award.
Menconi will be conducting field research related to her curriculum and in concert with the recent Pacific Vet Group (PVG) launch of FloraStart, an innovative new hatchery administered probiotic that increases 7-day weights and reduces early mortality in neonatal broiler chicks.
