Brazil’s Aurora ranked best in poultry and pig sector

Santa Catarina based Cooperativa Central Aurora Alimentos has been judged the best company in the pig and poultry sector in the annual publication Melhores & Melhores. Published by Editora Abril, “Biggest and Best” ranks the 100 largest companies in Brazil each year, based on their performance during the previous year.

The ranking looks at factors such as growth in sales and profits, capital, liquidity, debt and number of employees, among others.

Aurora recorded gross operating income of BRL5.711 billion (US$2.603 billion) in 2013, an increase of 23.6 percent compares with 2012, while profits stood at BRL302 million (US$136.88 million). Its swine operations, worth BRL2.818 billion (US$1.28 billion) accounted for 49 percent of the business, while poultry, worth BRL1.907 billion (US$860 million), accounted for 33 percent. The company’s home market generated 81.52 percent of total sales.
