Broken shell eggs up 9% from February

There were 161 million dozen shell eggs broken during March, down 1% from March 2008, but up 9% from the 148 million broken in February, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

From January through March 2009, shell eggs broken totaled 471 million dozen, down 3% from the first three months of 2008. Cumulative total edible product from eggs broken for 2009 was 617 million pounds, down 3% from 2008.
