Egg-type chicks hatched during March 2009 were up 1%, at 40.1 million according to information from the National Agricultural Statistics Service. On April 1, 2009 eggs in incubators totaled 37.6 million, again slightly up from a year ago.
Up 13% from March 2008, domestic placement of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 277 thousand in March 2009.
