Justice Department closes Michael Foods antitrust investigation

No indictments or charges were filed

The Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice has notified Michael Foods Inc. that it has closed its investigation of the company. No indictments or charges were filed in connection with the investigation.

The investigation began in March, 2008, when Michael Foods and several other egg-product companies were served with subpoenas. The government sought information relating to the pricing, marketing and sale of egg products. The investigation was conducted by the Philadelphia office of the Department of Justice.

Michael Foods is a multinational producer and distributor of food products to the foodservice, retail and food-ingredient markets. Its principal products are specialty egg products, refrigerated potato products, cheese and other dairy products.
