The China Ministry of Health on April 26 announced that no human cases of swine flu have been found in China. However, the government is still keeping a close watch on the spread of the disease.
It is hard to predict whether human cases of swine flu will occur in China, Wang Jian, a director at the Beijing-based Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said in an interview with Beijing’s Caijing magazine.
But visitors from Mexico and the US may raise the risk of a disease outbreak in China if these countries fail to control the deadly virus, Wang added.
China has already stockpiled medicines such as Tamiflu for flu prevention and treatment, CCDCP’s director Shu Yuelong, told Beijing’s state-owned China National Radio.
In order to prevent the spread of swine flu, China also suspended the import of hog and pork products from affected areas -- Mexico and three US states -- April 26, according to China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Authorities also issued an announcement asking anyone who has experienced flu-like symptoms within two weeks of travelling to affected areas to maintain quarantine.
