According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), chicken production for the second half of 2015 will increase between 2 and 3 percent, close to 13 million tons and similar to the current production of China — the second largest producer in the world.

The domestic market remains very important for Brazilian poultry producers, as the ABPA predicts that per capita chicken consumption will have a similar growth with approximately 45 kg per person in the year and driven by increases in beef prices.

As for exports, the association expects even a stronger growth: up 5 percent. This is due to the strong increase in exports to China, which has grown from a monthly average of 17,000 tons in the first half of 2014, to 24,000 tons in the same period this year.

Favored exports come from countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Africa and Russia, which are traditional markets for Brazilians, but also welcome the opening of markets such as Myanmar, Pakistan and Malaysia to reach a total from 158 countries.

Last July, Brazil exported a record high of 400,000 tons of poultry meat in its various forms: whole chicken, cuts, salted, processed and cured meats.

Exports of eggs (in shell and processed) have also benefited from strong growth, reaching 7,000 tons in the first half of 2015, that is, 41.9 percent higher than in the same period of 2014.
