Jasper, Alabama, has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the State of Alabama to help with infrastructure required for a $12 million expansion of Mar-Jac Poultry Inc.’s plant in Jasper.
With assistance from the grant, Jasper will expand its Town Creek wastewater treatment plant to increase intake capacity to 500,000 gallons of wastewater daily. The increased capacity is crucial to the expansion of the plant, which will generate about 1.6 million gallons of wastewater per week.
Once the expansion is completed, an estimated 50 jobs will be added to the Mar-Jac payroll.
“Agriculture is a vital component in Alabama’s economy and employs many Alabamians,” said Gov. Robert Bentley. “The expansion is important to Mar-Jac’s investment in our state.”
The Jasper poultry plant expansion is just one of several growth projects for Mar-Jac. In April, the company announced that it is also building a new feed mill in Franklin County and expanding its hatchery in Moulton Alabama. When the feed mill project is completed, it is expected to employ 30 more people and the hatchery expansion is expected to add another 25 jobs.
Mar-Jac Holdings is the parent company to Mar-Jac Poultry LLC, which includes the company’s Alabama and Mississippi operations, and Mar-Jac Poultry Inc., which includes the company’s Georgia operations. The 17th largest broiler company in the United States, according to the WATT Global Media Top Companies Database, Mar-Jac Holdings processes 225.16 million chickens annually.
