Australian grain company ABB Grain announced plans to buy the NRM Feeds operation of New Zealand poultry integrator Tegel Foods for A$31.7 million (about US$20.7 million) with settlement on March 20, 2009, according to an ABB Grain press release.

The acquisition includes two mills and a textured feed plant in Auckland, giving ABB Grain milling capacity in both the North and South Islands. NRM Feeds imports over 100,000 metric tons of grain a year for processing in its mills, says ABB Grain managing director Michael Iwaniw, and with this additional tonnage, ABB Grain would be managing the supply chain for over 750,000 metric tons of grain and other bulk commodity imports.
