As European Commissioner, Dr. Byrne established a three-pillar strategy comprising: a full range of Food and Safety Laws; the setting up of a new independent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA); and the introduction of an effective control and enforcement mechanism.

“Dr. Byrne pioneered the structures of traceability, rapid response and recall within the EU. These structures are now used worldwide and are recognised as the global blueprint for feed and food safety systems. He revolutionised feed and food safety and restored consumer confidence in the industry,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech.

Dr. Byrne currently serves as non-executive director of Alltech. As part of this role, he is a member of Alltech’s Risk Overview Committee.

Symposium presentation

Dr. Byrne will take part in the Symposium Plenary Session, where he will discuss Crisis Management in today’s environment and will challenge the industry to meet, what he calls, the ‘PACE Principle’, i.e. to achieve long-term profitability while continuing to be conscious of animal welfare, responsive to consumer needs and environmentally friendly.
