10 facts about global feed production in 2015

Global feed production was up 2 percent to 995.5 million metric tons (mmt) in 2015, according to Alltech’s Global Feed Survey.

Alltech recently announced the results of its Global Feed Survey.

Highlights from the report include:

  1. 995.57 million metric tons: Total global feed production in 2015
  2. $450 billion: Total global sales based on average feed prices
  3. 2 percent: The amount of total global feed production growth from 2014
  4. 7 percent: Amount of growth in production amounts for India
  5. 463.69 million metric tons: Total amount of poultry feed produced in 2015
  6. 179.93 million metric tons: Total production from China, the world’s No. 1 producer of animal feed
  7. 32,341: Total number of feed mills surveyed worldwide
  8. 14,349: Total number of feed mills surveyed in Asia
  9. 131: Number of countries from which data was gathered
  10. 4.5 percent: Amount of overall growth seen in Europe, the most of any region

To conduct its survey, Alltech visits more than 32,000 feed mills in 131 countries to gather estimates on compound feed production. Data also is gathered from feed industry associations. Although there are differences in how feed is defined in various countries, the survey only looks at feed that goes through a feed mill, and does not include forages.
