Butterball donates turkey products to fulfill Super Bowl Bet

In the wake of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 win, Butterball backed up the friendly wager N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory made with Colorado Gov. John Hinckenlooper by paying out five 50-case donations of turkey products across four food banks in North Carolina and Colorado.

In the wake of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 win, Butterball, LLC, backed up the friendly wager N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory made with Colorado Gov. John Hinckenlooper by paying out five 50-case donations of turkey products across four food banks in North Carolina and Colorado. In total, Butterball donated 250 cases of turkey products, which will support food banks in both Super Bowl teams’ home states by providing approximately 20,000 meals for those in need.

As part of a pregame bet between the two governors, Gov. Pat McCrory offered to work with Butterball to donate 50 cases of turkey burgers and 50 cases of turkey sausages to a Colorado food bank if the Broncos won the game. Butterball agreed to participate in the wager, and suggested upping the ante even after the Panthers lost. In addition to the original 100-case bet, Butterball committed to donate an extra 50 cases of turkey product to three N.C. food banks for a total of 250 cases in order to ensure both states experience a win in the fight against hunger.

“While we were pulling for a Panthers win, we congratulate the Broncos on their victory, and we’re proud to partner with Governor McCrory by donating Butterball turkey products to the Food Bank of the Rockies,” said Kerry Doughty, Butterball's president and CEO. “Butterball chose to increase its donation to include North Carolina food banks because, win or lose, we are passionate about supporting the communities where our employees live and work.”

Beneficiaries of the N.C. donations include the Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte, N.C.; the Durham Rescue Mission in Durham, N.C.; and the Raleigh Rescue Mission in Raleigh, N.C.
