Elanco Animal Health, in collaboration with the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) Foundation, is pleased to announce the establishment of two scholarships available to students pursuing degrees in poultry science and veterinary medicine at an accredited college or university.

The Elanco Memorial scholarships are intended to honor the memory of past Elanco poultry veterinarians and scientists by supporting learning opportunities for future generations. One undergraduate student will be awarded a $2000 scholarship, while a $3000 scholarship will be presented to a veterinary student interested in poultry medicine. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2016, and recipients will be notified by January 31, 2017.

Bob Bevans-Kerr, Executive Director, AAAP Foundation, said the awards will recognize excellence in students pursuing careers in poultry health, well-being, and food safety. “We are grateful to collaborate with Elanco to further our annual scholarship program,” he said. “The Elanco Memorial scholarships will allow us to support and encourage the next generation of poultry industry leaders.”

According to Dr. Sara Steinlage, Technical Advisor at Elanco, the financial awards support Elanco’s commitment to leadership development in the poultry industry, as well as the continuing collaboration between Elanco and the AAAP Foundation. “We are proud to honor the memories of Dr. Samantha Pohl and Dr. Ben Schlegal with the establishment of these two scholarships. Elanco was fortunate to have worked with these two individuals who cared deeply about the future of poultry production and it is only fitting to remember them by providing learning opportunities to future industry leaders.”

Eric Graves, Elanco’s president of U.S. and Canada operations, added that organizations like the AAAP Foundation support Elanco’s mission to provide a safe and abundant food supply through increased innovative solutions. “Elanco is committed to supporting students who will help poultry producers meet the growing demand for protein in the years to come,” Graves said.
