Thailand: Feed manufacturers work to address rising costs

Animal-feed producers team up with raw-material producers' association to request price hikes

Animal-feed producers teamed up with five raw-material producers' associations (Crop Growers & Merchandisers Association, Thai Fishmeal Producers Association, Thai Tapioca Trade Association, Thai Rice Mills Association, and Soybean & Rice Bran Oil Processors Association) to ask for price hikes to reflect surging global prices. Pornsil Patcharintanakul, president of the Thai Feed Mill Association, said the group had been seeking Commerce Ministry approval to raise prices by 10-20 percent but had yet to get an affirmative response. He added that the association had also submitted a proposal to the Finance Ministry to consider waiving the 5 to 10 percent import tariffs on other substitute raw materials such as fish oil, groundnut meal and brewers' grains to ease the rising costs of feed formulations, but that also has been to no avail.
