USA Poultry & Egg Export Council names communications deputy

The USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) has named David Markiewicz, a former reporter at several major U.S. newspapers, deputy director of communications.

The USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) has named David Markiewicz, a former reporter at several major U.S. newspapers, deputy director of communications.

He will assist vice president of communications, Toby Moore, with internal and external communications for the not-for-profit industry trade group.

Markiewicz comes to USAPEEC from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where he worked for 15 years, primarily as a business reporter. He previously was a reporter for the Detroit Free Press, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Milwaukee Business Journal and The Detroit News, where he covered various industries.

Markiewicz earned an award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for his business reporting in 2014, and he received multiple awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors for his sports reporting.

Markiewicz holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He also studied business journalism at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and management training at the University of Wisconsin.

“We are delighted to have someone with David’s journalistic experience join the USAPEEC staff,” said USAPEEC President Jim Sumner. “His depth of experience as a business journalist will bring an extra dimension to our communications effort.”

Markiewicz lives in Decatur, Georgia, with his wife and three children.
