Pig farmers in Malaysia have increased the ex-farm price of pigs, triggering a pork price increase of 17 cents (60 sen) per kg, according to a report in The Star.
Four states involved in the report – Johor, Selangor, Penang and Perak – are the main source of pig meat for the nation.
The daily said that the Federation of Livestock Farmers' Associations of Malaysia's call to let the demand and supply determine the price of pork was not heeded by farmers.
