Gateway to Farm Animal Welfare is designed for farmers looking for information about welfare

United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization launched a new portal on animal welfare.

The Web site, Gateway to Farm Animal Welfare, is designed for farmers and their advisers looking for information about the welfare of farmed livestock. It contains information on legislation and research as well as animal welfare standards, practices and policies.

The site will also provide a forum for animal welfare issues related to activities such as transport, slaughter and pre-slaughter management, animal husbandry and handling, and the culling of animals for disease control.

FAO has developed the portal in collaboration with international partners in animal welfare including the European Commission, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Organization for Animal Health and Compassion In World Farming.
