Genesus Genetics bags No. 1 spot

Swine breeding company earns honor for third consecutive year

Canada-based swine breeding company Genesus Genetics reports that one of its client herds has taken the top spot for the third consecutive year, in the North American benchmarking run by Swine Management Services.

The production index for 2008, released recently by SMS, refers to its database that covers 585 farms and over 1.17 million sows and gilts representing all the main sources of genetics.

The top 10% of herds in the database averaged 27.31 pigs weaned per sow/year while the all-herds average was 23.30 pigs/sow. The Genesus Genetics customer at number one achieved 30.80 pigs/sow. The breeder supplied eight of the top 10 SMS herds and 15 out of the top 20, according to a news release.
