Deoxynivalenol, fumonisin reported in Illinois corn

New reports of deoxynivalenol (DON) and fumonisin (FUM) in corn have been confirmed in one U.S. state, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from October 3.

New reports of deoxynivalenol (DON) and fumonisin (FUM) in corn have been confirmed in one U.S. state, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from October 3.

The reports of DON and FUM both came from Illinois, Neogen said. Also, in Indiana, a previous report of DON has been increased to more than 10 parts per million (ppm).

Previous reports of DON in corn came from:

  • Texas
  • Oklahoma

Aflatoxin has previously been reported in corn in the following states:

  • Louisiana
  • Kansas
  • Alabama
  • South Carolina
  • North Carolina
  • Georgia
  • Texas
  • Oklahoma

Fifteen percent of the corn crop has been harvested, which is 4 points behind the five-year average. Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Minnesota are the most behind, with Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina well ahead of the five-year average.

Wheat and barley harvests complete

The U.S. wheat and barley harvests are complete. Reports of DON in wheat from this year’s harvest came from:

  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Georgia
  • Pennsylvania
  • North Carolina
  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Manitoba, Canada
  • Saskatchewan, Canada

Reports of DON in barley from this year’s harvest came from:

  • North Dakota
  • Maryland
  • Delaware
  • Manitoba, Canada
  • Saskatchewan, Canada
