NCC names Mike Popowycz as chairman

The National Chicken Council (NCC) has named Mike Popowycz, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Case Foods Inc., will serve as the industry group’s 2016-2017 chairman.

The National Chicken Council (NCC) has named Mike Popowycz, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Case Foods Inc., will serve as the industry group’s 2016-2017 chairman.

On October 27, the Washington-based group announced Popowycz, who was first elected to the NCC’s board of directors in 2012, will serve a one-year term as chairman.

Popowycz was elected to the Case Foods Board of Directors in 2005 and to the National Chicken Council Board of Directors in June 2012.  Prior to joining the Ohio Division, he spent two years with Bell Atlantic Corporation and seven years with Perdue Farms Incorporated serving in various accounting and tax positions.  He received a B.A. in accounting from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Troutman, North Carolina, chicken company Case Foods Inc. is ranked as the 14th largest broiler company by WATT Poultry USA.

He replaces outgoing chairman Todd Simmons, of Simmons Foods Inc. 

Other officers elected

The following 2016-2017 officers were also announced during the NCC’s 62nd Annual Conference in Washington:

Ben Harrison, president and chief executive officer of Amick Farms LLC, will serve as vice chairman. Amick is the US’s 13th largest broiler company. Harrison is active in the poultry industry and agricultural associations, currently serving on the Board of Directors at NCC and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association. He also served on the local school board from 2000 to 2012.

Mark Kaminsky, chief operating officer at Koch Foods, will serve as secretary-treasurer. Koch Foods is the nation’s 5th largest broiler company.

NCC President Mike Brown was elected to a fifth term as the group’s president. He’s held the position since 2011.
