Weak export demand for Dutch piglets resulted in a fall in weaner prices in the second quarter of 2008, due to a drop in demand from Germany, Spain, and Italy.
Over the period of January to June 2008, weaner exports totalled 1.29 million head, down 12 percent year on year. A drop in finished pig prices in April forced the weaner price down to €30 per head.
Due to high feed prices and reduced export demand, prices have remained stable despite finished pig prices rising sharply.
