The previous contraction in the two countries’ pig herds has already resulted in sharp falls in pig slaughterings so far in 2008 compared with a year earlier. In the first half of the year, pig slaughterings in Poland were 9% lower than a year earlier and there was an 8% reduction in output in Hungary.
