Walkerton Food Bank receives significant fresh chicken donation from CFO Cares

As part of its CFO Cares program, Chicken Farmers of Ontario donated more than 700 kilograms (1,543.2 pounds) of fresh chicken to the Walkerton Food Bank in Ontario.

As part of its CFO Cares program, Chicken Farmers of Ontario donated more than 700 kilograms (1,543.2 pounds) of fresh chicken to the Walkerton Food Bank. The donation was made at a food bank event that was attended by local politicians, chicken farmers and the food bank’s board members, staff and volunteers.

The chicken delivered to the food bank is providing the equivalent of approximately 1,200 chicken meals for Walkerton, Ontario, and its surrounding communities this holiday season.

Adrian Rehorst, who farms in nearby Teeswater, Ontario, and serves as CFO’s Board Director for District 1, said, “On behalf of my fellow farmers, I would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Walkerton and District Food Bank for the important work they do for our community. Chicken farming is a large part of our local economy here in the Walkerton area, and we are grateful that we have opportunities like today to give back to those in need.”

The CFO Cares Food Bank Donation Program is working hard to alleviate hunger in Ontario. The Program is made possible in part by the Ontario Association of Food Banks, and enables chicken donations to local food banks ensuring that a steady supply of fresh, locally-grown chicken is available to Ontarians in need.

“The CFO Cares Food Bank Donation Program is placing fresh chicken protein in the hands of those who need it most," said Henry Zantingh, Chair, CFO. “This year some 250 Ontario chicken farmers have participated in the program for a total contribution of over 75,000 chickens and the number is growing every year.”
