Colorado quits crates
Legislation in Colorado forces pig producers to begin the phasing out of their sow stalls
Gestation crates — otherwise known as individual sow stalls — will be banned on pig units in the US state of Colorado as from 2018. The state legislature has agreed a new law that prohibits close confinement of sows in pregnancy. But the vote gives Colorado producers 10 years in which to phase out the stalls.
