Steve Jurek, President of St. Cloud-based GNP Company, has received the Midwest Poultry Consortium’s (MPC) highest honor—the Outstanding Service Award. Jurek, who has served the MPC board of directors in numerous roles for almost two decades, finished his final term as board chair at the March 14 Annual Meeting.

“Steve has been an invaluable asset to the Midwest Poultry Consortium over the years,” said Beth Nelson, MPC President. “Whether through his work as board treasurer, chairman, or helping mobilize resources during challenging times, the Consortium could always count on Steve’s leadership and reliability. We will miss his steady guidance moving forward.”

Jurek’s involvement in the MPC has been critical to its success. In addition to his service on the board of directors, Jurek has been a tireless fundraiser for MPC and its core Center of Excellence Scholarship/Internship Program (COE). Jurek has also participated in MPC efforts to advocate for funding the Midwest Poultry Research Program (MPRP), offering his time and talents for the good of the organization. GNP Company, through his leadership, has also been an industry leader in educating COE students through valuable internships following their summer COE classes.

The award-winner joined GNP Company (then called Gold’n Plump Poultry) in 1977 and held a variety of positions before being named President in November of 2014. Jurek holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minn., and a Masters of Business Administration with a finance emphasis from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
