Aviagen appoints Michael Block

Aviagen has appointed Michael Block as a new technical service manager in the Asian region.

Aviagen has appointed Michael Block as a new technical service manager in the Asian region. He will assume responsibility for a number of growing customers and continually update them on the latest research, management and nutrition guidelines to improve flock performance. Block will report directly to Mark Wright, Aviagen regional technical manager in Asia.

Block spent his early days on a family farm before he started with Tegel Turkeys in New Zealand and worked his way up to farm manager during his first three years with the company. He subsequently joined the chicken segment of the business in 2004 as a Broiler Advisor and worked closely with several contract growers who produce most the birds sold and distributed by Tegel Foods.

After three years, Block was promoted to Broiler Manager, supervising several broiler advisors and managing a larger number of growers and production. He was then appointed National Performance Manager in New Zealand and was responsible for the total live operation including a commercial field trial and separate pen trial facilities. In this role for four years, Block not only had national bird performance but also the entire management of all the contract growers including the contract and payment terms, issue resolution and training. In the last two years, Tegel returned to a regional structure and Block became Live Bird Production Manager for the South Island where he managed broiler and turkey production, the feed mill, catching crews and production planning.

“Michael was attracted to Aviagen due to the genetic development and progress he had experienced as a customer, the opportunity to work in a different environment in Asia and to utilize his knowledge and understanding of production with customers,” said Mark Wright, regional technical manager, Asia. "He brings a fresh customer perspective and a wealth of experience to share with the team and the business. We look forward to his contribution.”
