Diamond V expands pre-harvest food safety expertise

Diamond V’s food safety expertise continues to grow, as Allen Byrd, PhD, DVM has joined the team as Director, Poultry Food Safety.

Diamond V’s food safety expertise continues to grow, as Allen Byrd, PhD, DVM has joined the team as Director, Poultry Food Safety.

“In his new role, Dr. Byrd will develop and support Diamond V’s growing pre-harvest food safety business,” says Mike Mitchell, Director, North American Poultry for Diamond V.

Dr. Byrd has spent the majority of his career with the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service in College Station, TX. Most recently he worked as Project Leader and Research Microbiologist. In the position, he designed, planned, and coordinated pre-harvest food safety research for the federally funded program with a focus on controlling Campylobacter and Salmonella through on-farm intervention strategies.

Dr. Byrd studied at Texas A&M University, receiving BS degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Science, his MS in Nutrition, a PhD in Poultry Science, and finally his DVM. He has authored several books and made numerous presentations across the world on the topic of pre-harvest food safety. Additionally, he has taught several classes at the School of Veterinary Medicine and in the Poultry Science department at Texas A&M University, and has consulted with numerous domestic and international companies. Dr. Byrd is based in College Station, TX.
