From WATTAgNet:

Lincoln Premium Poultry has been approved for a permit from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, which will allow the construction of its physical plant to begin in Fremont, Nebraska.

Officials representing Lincoln Premium Poultry and Costco Wholesale Corporation broke ground on the future facility in June, but to date, only dirt work to prepare the site for the plant has been done. With the issuing of the permit, which was needed because of potential air quality concerns, the building can be erected.

Once completed, the plant will process chicken exclusively for sale in Costco Wholesale Corporation stores. The facility will have the capacity to process about 2 million chickens per week and provide Costco with about a third of the raw and rotisserie chicken products to be sold at its stores.

The Lincoln Premium Poultry complex will also include a hatchery and a feed mill.

The plant is expected to be in operation by April 2019, and processing equipment has already been ordered from Marel Poultry.

To support the plant, Lincoln Premium Poultry is in the process of reaching agreements with contract farmers. Earlier this week, a company representative attended a Madison County Commission meeting in Nebraska to visit with commissioners about the prospect of having three growers in the county.
