DSM is number 2 on Fortune magazine’s 2017 Change the World list, an annual publication of companies that have a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy. The top three companies this year are JP Morgan, DSM and Apple.

Fortune applauded DSM’s contributions in the areas of Nutrition, Climate Change, and Circular Economy.

The magazine highlighted DSM’s efforts in the fight against malnutrition with Africa Improved Foods (AIF), a joint venture with DSM, the government of Rwanda and other partners. AIF is improving the nutritional status of the Rwandan population and helping address malnutrition by manufacturing enhanced nutritious foods sourced from local small holder farmers.

Fortune further praised DSM’s sustainable solutions in the areas of nutrition and climate change such as Project “Clean Cow,” a new feed ingredient that demonstrates a 30%-plus reduction in methane emissions without any adverse effects on beef and dairy cattle’s welfare, feed consumption or performance.

Other DSM solutions and activities recognized by Fortune include DSM’s partnership with the World Food Program, the company’s Project Liberty joint venture for next generation biofuels, and Niaga, the first fully recyclable carpet.

Fortune’s annual Change the World list ranks companies on three factors: measurable social impact, business results and degree of innovation. The list is determined by Fortune writers and editors with help from partners FSG and Shared Value Initiative. The list prioritizes companies with annual revenues of $1 billion or more.
