After only exporting a small amount of broiler meat to Lebanon, the U.S. shipped nearly 2.5 million pounds there during July, according to figures revealed in the Livestock and Meat International Trade Data report, issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on October 6.

According to the report, about 2,448,000 pounds of U.S. broiler meat was exported to Lebanon in July, up dramatically from the estimated 4,000 pounds shipped there in June.

The report tracks figures for imports and exports for each month starting on May 2016. Throughout that time, Lebanon only received U.S. broiler shipments during four months. After eight consecutive months of no U.S. broilers imported by Lebanon, the country received 47,000 pounds in January 2017. A four-month gap followed until June, when Lebanon imported 417,000 pounds.

Senegal receives first shipment in months

The report also revealed that the U.S. broiler industry ended a long drought of exporting to Senegal in July. No U.S. broiler shipments went to the country in West Africa from May 2016 through July, but in August, 105,000 pounds were exported.

Exports to Mexico, Cuba up from previous month

As expected, the report revealed that more U.S. broiler meat was exported to Mexico during August than any other country.

U.S. broiler exports to Mexico in August were reported at nearly 110.5 million pounds, an increase of well over 6 million pounds when compared to July.

On a year-over-basis, U.S. broiler exports to Mexico were down by a little over 11 million when compared to August 2016.

Cuba remained the second largest importer of U.S. broiler meat, also up on a month-over-month basis. At nearly 45.8 million pounds, Cuba increased the amount of U.S. broilers received by about 1.7 million pounds when compared to July. The year-over-year increase was even greater. In August 2016, Cuba received just more than 31.2 million pounds.
