Already claiming to be the largest turkey meat producer in the Russian Federation, Damate Group has announced investments that will double its output to 155,000 tons per year.

Based in the regions of Penza and Tyumen, Damate Group is set to double its production of turkey meat within two years, with an investment of RUB15.5 billion (US$270 million). This will bring to RUB41 billion (US$714 million) the firm’s financial commitment to the project, which is based on the country’s growing demand for turkey. As for previous projects, financing is being provided by Rosselkhozbank at a soft loan rate of 5 percent, which has been approved by the agriculture ministry.

Under the latest expansion program, both turkey breeding and fattening capacities will be expanded, with new hatching and brooding facilities. The processing plant will be upgraded, and new lines added. Elevator storage capacity at the Damate feed mill is set to be increased to 100,000 tons, and the firm will purchase more land.

Damate expects these investments to add two thousand jobs in the region.

According to its own website, the firm is a Russian-based agricultural holding company with a current workforce of 3,500. In addition to turkey production, its other main businesses are dairy farming and milk processing, which are also undergoing significant expansion. Damate produces and sells more than 300 turkey meat products under the brand name, Indilight, to retailers in seven of Russia’s nine federal districts.

Others involved in Russian turkey production

Other significant players in Russia’s turkey meat sector include Cherkizovo Group. In 2012, Cherkizovo Group and Grupo Fuertes of Spain entered into a partnership to develop Tambov Turkey (Tambovskaia Indeika), a turkey meat production facility in Russia. It was inaugurated in May of 2016, and is scheduled to reach full production of 40,000-50,000 tons this year, according to the Group’s web site.

With production expected to reach or even exceed 70,000 tons in 2016, Eurodon LLC claimed to be Russia’s top turkey meat company in that year.
