Poultry Management Systems Incorporated (PMSI), founded in 1980 by Stephen Herbruck, has moved from its former location at the Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch facility in Saranac, Michigan, to a larger facility in Lowell, Michigan, that is more than twice the size of its former location.

The new 15,000 square foot facility allows for not only current growth but should also allow for future expansion as well.

The company specializes in making computerized equipment for cage-free housing systems. Those systems include egg handling, environmental control and management systems, HACCP monitoring and alerting, automated case labeling and custom motor control panels.

The growth is needed to keep up with the demands the company has seen from the industry increase in cage-free systems over the last eight years, the company website explained.

Their website also indicates that new jobs will be created for panel design, field service, Autocad design, and software development. The Grand Rapids Press reported those jobs will employ more than two dozen new personnel.

To insure biosecurity, the new building will have both clean and dirty areas for returned customer parts, the company website reported. Their former location at Herbruck’s on site location limited the company not only from a space standpoint, but also forced them to lease another building for traveling employees so that biosecurity standards could be maintained there.

Herbruck’s is the largest egg company in Michigan and the 13 largest egg supplier in the U.S. with 7.35 million hens at the end of 2016.

PMSI hopes the expansion will allow for a more efficient way to store products and maintain inventory.

The Grand Rapids Press also reported that the Michigan Economic Development Corp. helped with the expansion by conceding PMSI with a $175,000 performance-based grant.
