Russia’s leading meat and feed integrator, Cherkizovo Group, has reported a 5.9-percent increase in sales volume by its meat business for the year to the end of September than in the same period of 2016.

Volume growth by its Poultry division to 385,373 metric is attributed to improved operating performance. An increase of 18 percent in sales of value-added and branded products helped support the average selling price of the firm’s products to just over RUB90.13 (US$1.55) per kilo.

Double-digit sales volume growth was achieved by the Pork division for the nine-month period — up 13 percent to 148,722 metric tons. Three new production sites in Voronezh and two in Lipetsk have contributed to this expansion, which was supported by an ongoing program of genetic improvement. Average per-kilo price was up 8 percent from last year to RUB93.74 (US$1.61).

For the reporting period, the firm’s Meat Processing division achieved a 5 percent increase in sales volume to 167,346 metric tons, supported by growth in its sausage and semi-finished meat products. Average sales price was 3 percent higher than it the same period of 2016 at RUB150.19 (US$2.58) per kilo.

Looking at the third-quarter results alone, there are signs of slowing growth in output for Cherkizovo’s poultry and pig business segments.

In a separate development, Cherkizovo has announced an increase in its livestock feed production to 1.65 million metric tons in 2016, up from 1.57 million metric tons the previous year. A further line at its feed mill in Voronezh added 33 metric tons per hour of production capacity.
