2 US states report aflatoxin in corn silage

Two U.S. states have new confirmed reports of aflatoxin in corn silage this week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin Report from November 6.

Two U.S. states have new confirmed reports of aflatoxin in corn silage this week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin Report from November 6.

Iowa and North Dakota are the latest to report aflatoxin in corn silage.

These reports are added to the previous reports of mycotoxins in corn:

  • Tennessee (fumonisin)
  • Alabama (fumonisin and aflatoxin)
  • Iowa (deoxynivalenol, zearalanone)
  • South Dakota (deoxynivalenol, fumonisin, T-2 toxin)
  • Kansas (aflatoxin and fumonisin)
  • North Carolina (fumonisin)
  • Missouri (fumonisin)
  • Oklahoma (aflatoxin and fumonisin)
  • Texas (aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin and fumonisin)
  • New York (deoxynivalenol, zearalanone)
  • Pennsylvania (deoxynivalenol)
  • Minnesota (deoxynivalenol)
  • Nebraska (fumonisin)
  • Wisconsin (T-2 toxin)
  • Georgia (Aflatoxin)

Corn condition and harvest

Fifty-four percent of corn has been harvested, up 16 points from last week but still 18 points behind the five-year average.

States the furthest behind their five-year averages for harvest progress are:

  • Minnesota (35 points behind)
  • South Dakota (31 points behind)
  • Colorado (30 points behind)
  • Iowa (26 points behind)
  • Wisconsin (25 points behind)
  • Nebraska (22 points behind)
  • North Dakota (21 points behind)

Corn condition remains unchanged from last week, with 66 percent in good to excellent condition and 11 percent in poor to very poor condition.

Nine of the country’s 18 corn-producing states continue to report corn in double-digit poor to very poor condition:

  • Indiana
  • Michigan
  • Kansas
  • North Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Wisconsin
