George’s acquires Campos Foods fully cooked meat plant

George’s Inc., a leading producer of poultry products, is diversifying with the acquisition of Campos Foods, LLC. The company acquired the company from Oklahoma City-based Lopez Foods, Inc.

Campos Foods’ plant is located in Caryville, Tennessee, and employs about 285 people. It is a producer of fully cooked pork, beef and turkey products servicing the retail, foodservice, and convenience store channels. According to the Lopez Foods website, the Campos Foods plant measures 85,000 square feet.

Charles George, co-chief executive officer of George’s, in a press release issued on November 27, said this acquisition further enhances his company’s value-added protein portfolio. “The addition of Campos Foods fits as part of our overall growth strategy and continued focus on adding value for our customers and stakeholders,” he said.

Carl George, co-chief executive officer said about the purchase, “The team at Campos Foods has a proven track record of producing premium protein products for a wide variety of customers; we are excited to add their capabilities to our existing operations.”

The terms of the transaction were not released.

Founded in the 1920s, George’s is a fourth-generation family-owned and operated poultry company headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas. With more than 4,800 team members and vertically integrated operations in Arkansas, Missouri and Virginia, George’s is the 12th largest poultry producer in the U.S. According to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, George’s produced 21.49 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2016.
