Operations have been suspended at the House of Raeford Farms plant in Mocksville, North Carolina during the early morning hours of December 14.

According to a statement issued from the company several hours following the fire, first responders were on the scene within minutes of being notified of the fire.

“Thanks to their good work and the work of our plant team, the fire is out, no one was harmed and the site is secure,” the company said in a statement. “Local authorities remain on the scene to monitor it and assist our plant management with their investigation to determine the cause and extent of the damage.

The plant is presently closed, and House of Raeford Farms is asking employees not to report to work until otherwise notified. They will be paid their normal wages until given further notice.

The company does not expect to experience any major supply disruptions to its customers.

Previous House of Raeford plant fire

The incident in Mocksville marks the second time in 2017 that the company was affected by a plant fire.

House of Raeford’s poultry plant in Teachey, North Carolina, known by the company as the Wallace plant, was destroyed by a fire on February 25. Shortly after the fire occurred, the company promised that it would rebuild. Demolition of the old plant began on April 3, and in late June, House of Raeford announced that it was partnering with general contracting and construction company Fitts & Goodwin to oversee the rebuilding of the plant at the same location.

House of Raeford Farms, the ninth largest broiler company in the United States, in October reported that the rebuilding of the Wallace plant was progressing as planned, and if things continue at the current pace, the plant will be able to be in operation in the summer of 2018.
