Polish poultry company, Drobimex, completed the expansion and modernization of its processing plant in Dabie in 2017.

The completion of the project—costing PLN200 million (US$59 million) over three years—was the firm’s most significant development last year, according to Drobimex president, Klaus Roppel.

Roppel told Portal Spozywczy that the facility’s new packaging area in particular will open up new export opportunities. Already, he said, the company ships 1,800 tons of poultry meat each month to other countries.

The investment at the plant in the neighborhood of Dabie in the city of Szczecin in north western Poland also includes the latest technology in carcass chilling, portioning, freezing and storage.

Drobimex also has a plant at nearby Goleniow, where recent expansion has included new lines for slicing and packing sausages, as well as increased warehousing capacity.

Last year, Szczecin Wyborcza reported that Drobimex’s parent company, PHW Group of Germany, had increased its investment in the modernization of its Polish affiliate by 25 percent in order to strengthen its position in both domestic and international markets.

With a monthly production of around 3,300 tons and a workforce of 800, Drobimex sells a range of about 80 cold cut products throughout Poland through large and small retailers. Almost one-third of its sales are exported to other European Union countries and Azerbaijan.

Drobimex represents its parent company’s largest investment outside Germany.

PHW Group recently announced that its poultry processing plant in Lohne, Germany, would soon reopen after a devastating fire in 2016.

According to the WATT World Top Poultry Company rankings in 2016, PHW Group was Europe’s third largest producer of poultry meat.
