Ranjit Singh Boparan is to step down as CEO of the U.K.’s largest poultry company, 2 Sisters Food Group.

Twenty-five years after co-founding the firm and building up the business, Singh Boparan will step into the position of president of Boparan Holdings Limited (BHL), the group’s parent company.

Until a new CEO is appointed, Martyn Fletcher — the current COO — will be responsible for 2 Sisters Food Group’s operations.

Explaining the move, Singh Boparan said that the timing for these changes is right to secure the future of the 2 Sisters Food Group’s business.

“Ranjit has spent 25 years of his life building a world class food business,” commented Charles Allen, Chairman of BHL. “He has been a catalyst for change within the food industry, by challenging the norm and providing our customers and consumers with great service, great quality food, and great prices. In his new role, he will be playing to his strengths, looking at new opportunities and reducing debt that will help take the business to new levels of success.”

In recent weeks, 2 Sisters announced it would be making changes aimed at refocusing its poultry operations in the U.K., including creating jobs at five of its poultry facilities and closing production at three other locations. The firm also announced production expansion at its Derby plant.

Late last year, 2 Sisters Food Group was at the center of allegations of food safety breaches. Later, Singh Boparan apologized to members of the House of Commons for the loss on consumer confidence in poultry produced by his company.
