Butterball adding frozen storage facility in Arkansas

Butterball is expanding its operations in Huntsville, Arkansas, with the addition of a frozen storage facility.

Butterball is expanding its operations in Huntsville, Arkansas, with the addition of a frozen storage facility.

Construction related to the project is underway, and work on the facility is expected to be completed in August, according to a report from the Madison County Record. The project is valued at about $14 million.

The addition includes 40,000 square feet and is expected to employ four new managers and about 12 operators. These jobs will be added to Butterball’s current workforce in Huntsville, which amounts to about 650 people.

According to the WATT PoultryUSA Top Companies Poultry Plants Directory, the company's plant in Huntsville includes slaughter, deboning and cooking operations.

The staff at the Huntsville plant was honored at the 2016 National Safety Conference for the Poultry Industry as a recipient of the Award of Distinction. Six other Butterball plants also met the criteria for that award. Also, in 2012, the facility's staff completed 7 million hours without a lost-time accident.

Butterball, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is the largest turkey producer in the United States. The company slaughtered an estimated 1.38 billion pounds of live turkeys in 2016.
