The Presidents of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) and Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council (MTRPC) recently honored John Burkel, a turkey farmer from Badger, Minn., for his extraordinary efforts on behalf of Minnesota’s turkey farmers for nearly two decades.

Burkel served nine years on the Boards of MTGA and MTRPC, including a one-year stint as president of both organizations. Burkel also recently completed his 11th and final year on the National Turkey Federation (NTF) Executive Committee.

“John’s leadership guided us through many important projects for our organizations,” said MTGA/MTRPC Executive Director Steve Olson. “On the NTF Committee, he has been a tireless advocate for turkey farmers and served as Chairman of that organzation in 2013.”

The MTGA and MTRPC President’s Awards are given annually to individual(s) chosen specifically for their dedication and commitment to the goals of the organization.

The official award presentation took place at the MTGA’s annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minn. on March 14.
