The Poultry Science Association Foundation (PSA Foundation) was pleased to recognize Mr. Nathan Anders as the recipient of the Inaugural Dr. James H. and Shirley H. Endowed Memorial Scholarship during the Poultry Science Club Awards Banquet, on April 14 in College Station, TX. Mr. Anders is currently a junior enrolled in the Department of Poultry Science at Texas A&M University with a dual major in Agricultural Science. Dr. Denton, Executive Director of the Poultry Science Association Foundation, established the scholarship in memory of his beloved wife Shirley, who was admired by faculty and students in Poultry Science for her support of Dr. Denton as faculty advisor for the Poultry Science Club. Dr. Denton served as Poultry Marketing Specialist with the Texas Agricultural Service beginning in 1977. Later at Texas A&M University he served as Associate Department Head-Extension and Department Head in Poultry Science. Contribution of the Poultry Science Department Family at Texas A&M University was recognized by both Shirley and Dr. Denton for the value in shaping their lives throughout their career.

The scholarship is intended to support a rising junior who has chosen Poultry Science as their field of study and has expressed an interest in graduate education for the M.S. and Ph.D.

“Because Mr. Anders is enrolled in Poultry Science with a dual major in Agricultural Science he is clearly progressing in his studies and will be an outstanding candidate for graduate studies for the M.S. and Ph.D. to develop as a future scientist,” stated Denton.

PSA Foundation Capital Campaign

The Capital Campaign was launched by the PSA Foundation in January 2015 and aims to develop scientific leaders in subject matter areas, such as poultry genetics, health and nutrition, and food safety and quality, for the poultry enterprise and allied industry. Funds of the Capital Campaign are used to award undergraduate internships, undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, travel grants and preceptor/mentoring grants.

The PSA Foundation is a charitable corporation affiliated with the Poultry Science Association with the primary purpose of advancing the founding principles of PSA. Since its founding in 2004, the PSA Foundation has worked to support a variety of initiatives, such as the Legacy Project which digitized and indexed issues published since 1906 of Poultry Science, one of PSA’s journals.
