Winter Sausage Manufacturing Co. recalls poultry and meat products due to misbranding

Winter Sausage Manufacturing Co, an Eastpointe, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 28,346 pounds of poultry, pork, and beef products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced June 14. The poultry products were slaughtered under religious exemption, which is not declared on the product label.

Winter Sausage Manufacturing Co, an Eastpointe, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 28,346 pounds of poultry, pork, and beef products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced June 14. The poultry products were slaughtered under religious exemption, which is not declared on the product label.

The poultry, pork, and beef items were produced on various dates from March 9, 2018 through June 4, 2018. The following products that are subject to recall can be found here. [View Labels (PDF only)]

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-10158” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These items were shipped to retail locations and distributors in Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The problem was discovered on June 12, 2018 by FSIS during routine labeling verification.  

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms are notifying their customers of the recall and that actions are being taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
