Michigan Turkey names new CEO, COO

Michigan Turkey will promote Brian Boerigter to the position of chief executive officer and Beth Riffe to the position of chief operating officer.

Michigan Turkey will promote Brian Boerigter to the position of chief executive officer and Beth Riffe to the position of chief operating officer.

Both appointments will be effective July 9.

Brian Boerigter

Boerigter, who has been with the company since it originated in 1999, has spent the past two and a half years as the chief operating officer of Michigan Turkey, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Prior to being named to that role, Boerigter spent 16 years as the chief financial officer of the company.

He also spent 12 years in a variety of accounting and financial planning roles at Bil Mar/Sara Lee.

He offers 30 years of experience in virtually all aspects of turkey processing and sales.

He will succeed Dan Lennon, who has been the CEO of Michigan Turkey since the company’s inception in 1999. Lennon, who has been in the food business for more than 36 years, will become the CEO emeritus and will remain with the company in an advisory role.

Beth Riffe

Riffe, the new chief operating officer, most recently served Michigan Turkey as its vice president of technical services. She also previously worked as research & development manager and cost optimization manager, and has an excellent grasp of Michigan Turkeys raw and cooked turkey plant operations, according to a press release from the company.

Before joining Michigan Turkey, Riffe had worked for several other notable food companies, including Frito Lay, Boar’s Head and Gordon Food Service. She has a degree in chemical engineering and a juris doctor degree.

Michigan Turkey is the 13th largest turkey company in the United States, according to the WATT PoultryUSA 2018 Top Turkey Companies survey. The company processed 210 million pounds of live turkeys in 2017. According to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, the company is owned by Michigan Turkey Producers Cooperative members and other investors.
