Spanning East to West and North to South, Americans across the country were encouraged to submit their locally inspired recipes for a chance to be named the best recipe in America as part of the Eggland's Best (EB) "America's Best Recipe" Contest. Eggland's Best announced the "Best in State" semi-finalist recipes from the Southeast on July 11.

Eggland's Best is now calling on all EB fans to help determine which Southeast recipe will be named "Best in Region," and have the chance to win the $10,000 Grand Prize. From now through July 31, fans can visit www.americasbestrecipe.com and vote for their favorite Southeast recipe.

"All of the submissions boasted creativity and tied in unique local ingredients and dishes, so we are thrilled to reveal the Southeast semi-finalists," said Charlie Lanktree, CEO of Eggland's Best. "It was incredible to hear from so many of our fans in the Southeast as to why Eggland's Best are the only eggs good enough for their recipes."

From the delicate Hummingbird Streusel Coffee Cake to the delightfully creative Hash Brown and Chive Crusted Goat Cheese Quiche, the "Best in State" recipes from the Southeast include:

  • Alabama: Lori S. – Southern Chocolate Sweet Potato Truffles
  • Florida: Rita P. – Bistro Shrimp & Rice Cake with Avocado Crema
  • Georgia: Jennifer S. – Hummingbird Streusel Coffee Cake
  • Mississippi: Barbara C. – Gulf Coast Shrimp Pasta Pizzazz
  • North Carolina: Janis M. – Hash Brown and Chive Crusted Goat Cheese Quiche
  • South Carolina: Carrie H. – Collards & Tomato Pie in Cornbread Crust
  • Tennessee: Cindy H. – Memphis Barbecue Mold
  • Virginia: Colleen D. – Lemon, Honey & Fresh Basil Deviled Eggs
  • West Virginia: Brittany F. – Appalachian Brunch
  • Kentucky: Brigitte P. – Sausage, Apple & Walnut Johnnycakes

Once all of the "Best in Region" recipes are announced, fans will be asked to take vote for the recipe they believe should be the Grand Prize Winner and earn the title of "America's Best Recipe." The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $10,000 and a year's supply of Eggland's Best eggs, and "Best in Region" winners will receive $1,000 each. State winners will also receive prizes from Eggland's Best.

A panel of judges, including actress, host, food lover and mom of two Courtney Lopez, and Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, and winner of the hit primetime ABC television show My Diet Is Better Than Yours, Dawn Jackson Blatner, will help select the Grand Prize Winner.

"I can't wait to help select the Grand Prize Winner later this year," said Lopez.  "My family loves Eggland's Best eggs, and I'm eager to try some of these delicious southern-inspired recipes since EB eggs are the only eggs I use to add freshness, great taste and nutrition to my meals."

Compared to ordinary eggs, EB eggs contain six times more vitamin D, 25% less saturated fat, more than double the Omega-3s, ten times more vitamin E and more than double the vitamin B12.  EB eggs are also an excellent source of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and vitamin B5. EB's superior nutritional profile is due to its proprietary all-vegetarian hen feed that contains healthy grains, canola oil and a wholesome supplement of rice bran, alfalfa, sea kelp and Vitamin E.
