South Korean poultry company Harim Group will begin selling processed chicken products in the Philippines, the company stated.

The move is considered a major breakthrough, as a spokesperson for Harim Group told the Korea Herald that this will be the first time for a South Korean company to export a processed chicken product to an overseas market.

Harim’s signature product of Yonggari chicken nuggets and other frozen foods will soon be available at supermarkets in major cities in the Philippines, the company said, after Harim Group’s products passed customs in the Philippines in July.

“With increased income level among citizens in the Philippines, we witnessed that more local consumers are buying imported food and ready-to-eat food. We expect more will enjoy Harim’s products as we launch active marketing in the Philippines,” Harim Group marketing official Park Jun-ho told the Herald.

Harim Group, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is South Korea’s largest poultry company. In 2015, it controlled 32 percent of the country’s poultry market. In addition to the Yonggari label, other key Harim Group chicken brands include Natural Record, Harim IFF and Slim&Light.

Harim Group’s subsidiary in the United States, Allen Harim Foods, is the 20th largest broiler company in the United States. In 2017, the company processed 8.27 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis. Earlier this summer, Allen Harim Foods opened its new corporate headquarters in Millsboro, Delaware. Prior to that, Allen Harim was headquartered in Seaford, Delaware.
