The Privé Group, a Singapore company that operates restaurants and nightclubs, has signed a pledge to source only cage-free eggs.
The company’s brands such as Privé, EMPRESS, Bayswater Kitchen, Privé Grill, The Green Door and Roadhouse.
The Privé Group’s decision to transition to only cage-free eggs came as a result of communications with Humane Society International (HSI) and forming the opinion that cage-free laying systems are better for animal welfare than conventional or enriched cages.
“Animal welfare is a growing global issue and we are thrilled to do our part toward making things better. It is something we care about, and we believe our customers appreciate that too,” Yuan Oeij, chairman of The Privé Group, said in a press release issued by HSI. “We would also love to support the initiatives undertaken by HSI, and switching to a higher-welfare cage-free egg supply chain allows us to take one small step towards a better world.”
Dawn Neo, corporate outreach manager for HSI Farm Animals in Asia, praised the company for its decision. “By adopting cage-free policies, companies around the world are signaling a shift in the food industry towards higher welfare products. We commend The Privé Group on its commitment to improve animal welfare in its supply chain, and look forward to continuing to work with them and other companies in the region to create a more humane supply chain,” said Neo.
The Privé Group will work with its suppliers to complete the transition to cage-free eggs by 2025
According to HSI, The Privé Group joins other companies that have made similar global cage-free egg commitments that apply to Singapore and the rest of Asia, including The Lo & Behold Group, Grand Hyatt Singapore and Andaz Singapore, AccorHotels, Sodexo, Compass Group and Unilever, among others. .
